Schneeflöckli we rescued from the Roma Camp in Portimao in February. She had two massiv holes in the side of her neck both on the right and left side. We have been able to fully treat her wounds and they have totally healed only leaving horrific scars in the place where once wounds the size of apples were. Then to our great surprise, Schneeflöckli gave birth to a beautiful filly that we have named Heidi! So fitting for the two girls to be Schneeflöckli and Heidi. The birth was horrific and we we not sure that either of them would make it. Our SMVC team leader, Thomas, who was there and assisted with the difficult birth and then our vet Maria came after a few hours and we were able to save both mom and daughter. We shall keep them for ever under the careful watch and support of SMVC and we are a proud family with Heidi our youngest family member!
Areia
Areia belonged to a portuguese couple who trusted the support of their local vet, who was a vet specialised in goats and had absolutely no clue how to help horses. Instead of saying he did not understand, he suggested to this couple to feed him strong powerful grains and this caused this sweet kind hearted donkey to develop Laminitis and Cushings Disease. We were able to go with our Portuguese Vet who is specialized in Equine Medicine and explain to them that Areia was in serious need of professional care and he would be best in our care with SMVC. We shall give him the necessary medication and treatments and we hope that this gentle kind hearted soul shall recover and get better and still have a long long wonderful life with us.
Free
We were called by the Romas and asked if we would take their mule that had his eye half bitten off by one of their horses. They had no more need or want or use for him so they would have left him at the side of the road. We immediately went to pick Free up and he was more that delighted to be in our care. He now can enjoy his forever home with SMVC and with 1 and 1/2 ears, we love him so much!
Juliette
Juliette has recovered tremendously under our care and is doing exceptionally well! She looks young again and can move around without pain. We adore you Juliette!
